Renowned singer Adnan Sami has recalled his weight loss journey and said that his father’s words determined him to do so. He said that the entire process of weight loss is 80 per cent psychological and 20 per cent physical effort.

At a wellness event today, Adnan said his father told him he doesn’t want to die after his son. This hard-hitting statement forced him to lose weight.

The 45-year-old said the greatest lesson he learnt in life was the journey he went through while losing weight.

Lahore-born Adnan recalled his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1989.

Adnan said his father died in 2009. But once during his regular check-ups in London, he advised Adnan to get himself checked. After the examination, the doctor told Adnan’s father that the singer wont be able to survive for long due to his weight.

"My father then told me he won't want me to die before him."

Adnan said he was 230 kg at that time but worked hard to lose 160 kg in six years.

Addressing "WellnessRules" organised by Saarc Chamber Women Entrepreneurs Council, Ficci YFLO, and Sleepwell Foundation, Adnan enthralled the audience by crooning some of his popular numbers "Lift kara de", "Kabhi tau nazar milao" and "Bhar do jholi meri".

The singer also spoke about what made him opt for Indian citizenship.

"I have lived in India for 17 years. India is my 'karambhoomi' (work field). I have lived in various countries but my heart was always in India due to the love showered on me by the people here."

"I had my ups and downs in getting the citizenship. But ultimately, I got it and I am happy about it, he said.

"I like India. I am a proud Indian," he added.

Adnan, who now lives in Mumbai, was granted Indian citizenship with effect from January 1, 2016, after he appealed to the Home Ministry on humanitarian grounds.
