The chief of ‘sanskaari’ Central Board of Film Certification, Pahlaj Nihalani has now issued an order to ban scenes showcasing alcohol consumption, especially by the protagonist in the film. Nihalani has stated that millions of people looked up to actors so they should set an example for the society adding that if the scene is important for the plot then ‘A’ certificate will be given to the film. Well, this comes as another shocking thing for the filmmakers, who were still not gotten over from his ‘sanskaari’ rules’

The CBFC chief stated to a publication that just putting a disclaimer towards the corner of the scene showcasing alcohol or smoking is not enough. He added that superstars are followed by millions of people. Thus, they should set good example and not be shown drinking or smoking on the silver screen unless it is very important. Makers will also have to blur liquor bottles in display, according to this new order.

Pahlaj Nihalani’s connection with banning is not new. Lately he refused to give certification to Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha calling it ‘lady oriented’. However, the film got released after FCAT intervened. Later, Nihalani also demanded to remove ‘intercourse’ word from the second mini-trailer of the Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma’s film Jab Harry Met Sejal.

Cinemas are called the mirror of the society. Is Pahlaj trying to bring change with these ‘sanskaari’ methods. It is yet to be seen how the film fraternity accept this decision and what is going to be its impact on upcoming films.
