The biopic on India’s limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues its winning streak at the box-office. The Sushant Singh Rajput starrer has now joined the likes of biggies such as Sultan, Airlift, Rustam.
On its second Saturday, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has made it to the coveted 100-crore club.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the film's makers, the film collected Rs 5.20 crore on Saturday (October 8), taking the total to Rs 103.4 crore.
For Sushant, it is his first solo film to cross the 100 crore mark. Before this, ‘PK’ had minted the magical numbers but Sushant only had a guest appearance in the film.
In a year in which even Shah Rukh Khan failed to cross the 100 crore mark, it is commendable that Sushant, who is just three films old, has done so. Other than him, only Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have managed to hit a century at the box-office in 2016.
Also, it is Neeraj Pandey’s first directorial to join the elite club. Before this, his production ‘Rustam’ had crossed Rs 100 crore at the box-office.
Produced by Fox Star Studios and Arun Pandey of Inspired Entertainment, the film also features Kiara Advani, Disha Patani and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, is overwhelmed with the positive response.
Singh said: "We are extremely humbled with the love that MS Dhoni's biopic is receiving. Crossing a Rs 100-crore nett box office in India is a result of all the love that India's most successful captain gets from his motherland."
"This has been an incredibly special film for us and we thank everyone who has worked on the film and the audiences for making this a big success story."
Anupam also tweeted: "Thank you Neeraj Pandey for your brilliance and inspiring millions with MS Dhoni's story. Thank you also for your continuous faith in me."
The film continues its good run in the theatres despite releases like "Mirzya", "Tutak Tutak Tutiya" and "Queen of Katwe".
