Bharatiya Janata Party’s Meera Agarwal beat her rival Congress candidate in Ward number 56 in Mathura in a nail-biting finish that saw her declared victorious in a lucky draw.
Matters came to a pass after both Meera and her rival Congress candidate secured exactly 874 votes each.
A lucky draw was conducted, and a chit was pulled out which had the BJP candidate’s name on it.
Counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh municipal elections or Nagar Nikay Chunav 2017 began at 8 am today amid tight security. The final results will be out by the evening.
Elections were held for 16 Municipal Corporations, 118 Municipal Council and 438 Nagar Panchayats in three phases on November 22, November 26 and November 29. The overall polling percentage for all three phases stands at 52.5 per cent.
