Sabitha Indra Reddy is the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and the Telangana Minister of Education since 2019. She also served as the Andhra Pradesh Minister of Mines and Geology from 2005 to 2009 and Minister of Home, Jail and Disaster Management from 2009 to 2013. Sabitha entered politics in 2000 after her husband Indra Reddy's death. She won a bypoll and entered the Andhra Pradesh Assembly as a Congress party candidate. She retained her constituency in 2004 and 2009. In 2004, Sabitha defeated the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) Sama Bhoopal Reddy by 41,585 votes. In the 2009 Andhra Pradesh polls, Sabitha won from Maheshwaram by defeating TDP candidate T Krishna Reddy by over 7,000 votes. In the 2018 Telangana Assembly polls, Sabitha Indra Reddy won from Maheshwaram by defeating TRS candidate Krishna Reddy once again. She has the rare distinction of becoming the first female Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh and also the first female Home Minister of any state in India. She is facing Congress candidate Kichannagiri Laxma Reddy and BJP's Andela Sriramulu Yadav from Maheshwaram as BRS nominee this time.
