The Election Commission on Saturday announced the schedule for Assembly elections in Telangana, which will go to the polls in a single phase on December 7. While addressing a press conference in Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat said the counting of votes in the state will be held on December 11.
With the announcement of polling and vote counting, the model code of conduct in the state came into force with immediate effect.
Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K Chandrasekhar Rao had dissolved the house last month -- nearly nine months before its term was to end.
The state Assembly has 119 seats.
Incumbent Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is ruling Telangana since 2 June 2014, the day it came into existence as a separate state.
Telangana will witness a triangular contest between the ruling TRS, the Congress and the BJP.
