According to the available trend at 6 pm, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 65 seats in Rajasthan with a vote share of 38.7 per cent while the Indian National Congress (INC) is ahead of all the other competitors on 102 seats with a vote percentage of 39.2 per cent.
A close look at the voting percentage reveals that a significant chunk of voters did not repose faith in either the ruling BJP or the opposition Congress. According to the ECI data (as recorded at 6 pm), 9.3 per cent of the electorate voted for the independents and 1.3 per cent of them preferred to press the NOTA (None of the Above) button. These numbers show that around 11% voters did not want to be governed by either the BJP or the Congress.
Game Changers
Had these 11% voters polled their votes in favour of the BJP or the Congress, either of the one would have emerged as a clear winner at the moment. Even if the people who chose NOTA had voted for either of the two parties, then one of them would have got an edge over the other.
The other conclusion that can be drawn from the available data is that, had the Congress managed to keep the BSP on its side, their combined vote share would have gone around 43 per cent (39.1+4.1=43.2 per cent), giving the combination a fair advantage over the BJP.
