In a recent development, Congress party’s two top leaders in Rajasthan have decided to fight assembly elections.

Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced that they will contest the December 7 state elections.

Both are claimants for the chief ministerial post. However, they avoided answering questions on who will be the CM face.

At a joint press conference, confirming their candidature, Pilot exuded confidence about dethroning the Vasundhara Raje-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.

"I and Gehlot will both contest the Assembly polls and Congress will come to power in the state," said Pilot, reported news agency IANS.

Pilot also rubbished reports of any friction with Gehlot.

According to the sources, just a few days before the polls, an internal fight has broken in the state unit of the Congress party over ticket distribution.

As per the sources, on Tuesday night, during central election committee meeting, Sachin Pilot and Rameshwar Dudi entered in a sharp war of words in front of Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Both were batting for the tickets for their candidates. Rahul Gandhi has asked for a detailed report from both the leaders, said sources.

Dispute is over Phulera, Kishangarh, Chittorgarh, Ganganagar and Phalodi seats. Dudi is considered close to Ashok Gehlot and hence the fight is being seen as the one between Sachin Pilot and Gehlot.

Congress leaders are advised to remain tight-lipped on the entire matter.
