Madhya Pradesh bypoll results: Congress retains both Mungaoli, Kolaras assembly seats

The bypolls were necessitated due to the death of Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras). Voting for bypolls on both the seats were held on February 24.

The Congress today retained Mungaoli Assembly seat as its candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav defeated his nearest BJP rival Baisahab Yadav by a margin of over 2,000 votes.

The Congress also won in Kolaras where its candidate Mahendra Singh Yadav defeated Devendra Jain of the BJP .

The bypolls were necessitated due to the death of Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras). Voting for bypolls on both the seats were held on February 24.

As it happened on Wednesday: 

9 pm: Congress retains MP's Kolaras Assembly seat in a by-poll with a margin of over 8,000 votes: EC official

07:03 pm: Kolaras bypoll result | Congress candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav defeates his nearest BJP rival Bai Sahib by a margin of over 2,000 votes.

04:46 pm: Mungaoli bypoll result | After 14th round of counting, Congress leading over BJP by 3222 votes

04:00 pm:  Kolaras bypoll result | After 13th round of counting, Congress leading by 3896 votes 

 

02:27 pm:  -Kolaras bypoll result | After 9th round of counting, Congress leading over BJP by 2257 votes 

1:30 pm: Mungaoli bypoll result |  Congress leading over BJP by 3834 votes in the seventh round of counting.

01:01 pm: Kolaras bypoll result |  Congress leading over BJP by 2474 votes

11:40 am: Mungaoli bypoll result: Congress leading over BJP by 1300 votes in the third round of counting.

10:49 am: Kolaras bypoll result | BJP - 3304 votes, Congress - 3556 votes

10:17 am: Mungaoli bypoll result| Congress ahead by 31 votes in second round of counting.

10:10 am: The outcome of the two bypolls would be watched keenly as a possible pointer to people's mood ahead of the Assembly elections in the BJP-ruled state, due later this year. 

10:09 am: Kolaras bypoll result |  BJP candidate gets 3295 votes, Congress gets 3809 votes.

09:11 am: BJP ahead by 302 votes in Mungaoli.

09:09 am: BJP's Baisahab Yadav was leading by 265 votes in Mungaoli while in Kolaras, the Congress candidate, Mahendra Singh Yadav, was ahead of his rivals by a margin of 514 ballots, an official said. 

09:06 am: BJP ahead in Madhya Pradesh's Mungaoli, Congress ahead in Kolaras.

08:25 am: Congress ahead in Kolaras, Mungaoli in first round.

08:00 am: Counting of votes for Madhya Pradesh's Mungaoli and Kolaras constituencies begins.

06:42 am: Mungaoli and Kolaras recorded a voters' turnover of 77.05 and 70.4 per cent respectively.

06:41 am: At both the seats, there is direct fight between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

06:14 am: 13 candidates including the Congress' Brijendra Singh Yadav, BJP's Bai Sahib were in fray in Mungaoli while 22 candidates including Congress' Mahendra Singh Yadav and BJP's Devendra Jain contested in Kolaras.

06:02 am: A total of 22 candidates were in fray in Kolaras while 13 tried their luck in Mungaoli.
