Karnataka Lok Sabha, Assembly bypolls: At least 43 per cent voter turnout recorded in five constituencies

Vote counting in all the five by-elections is on November 6.

Katnataka by-polls: Polling for 3 Lok Sabha, 2 Assembly seats

Voting for three parliamentary constituencies — Bellary, Shimoga, Mandya and two legislative assembly constituencies—Jamkhandi, Ramanagaram began at 7 am on Saturday. A total of 54.5 lakh electorate, including 27.2 lakh men and 27.3 lakh women, will vote in 6,543 polling booths across 3 Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies of Karnataka, a poll official said on Friday.

As 51,131 voters are physically challenged, the poll panel has arranged vehicles to freely ferry them for voting from their homes and drop them back.

Vote counting in all the five by-elections is on November 6.

Here are the highlights of the bypolls-

3:49 pm: Parliamentary constituencies Bellary 47%, Shimoga 41.49% and Mandya 37.7%. Legislative assembly constituencies Jamkhandi 58.82% and Ramnagar 54.76%.

3:17 pm: Karnataka: BJP MLA B Sriramulu cast his vote at polling station no. 52 in Bellary city. Voting for 3 parliamentary constituencies Bellary, Shimoga, Mandya & 2 legislative assembly constituencies Jamkhandi, Ramanagaram began at 7 am today.

3:07 pm: While the Lok Sabha constituencies of Shivamogga, Ballari and Mandya have recorded 30.20, 35.72, 26.80 per cent voting, respectively, till 1 pm, the assembly segments of Ramanagara and Jamkhandi reported 39.81 and 43.50 per cent respectively.

3:00 pm: About 35 per cent voting was recorded Saturday during the first half of polling for the by-polls to three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies in Karnataka.

11:30 am:  Madhu Bangarappa, JDS candidate from the parliamentary constituency of Shimoga cast his vote at a polling booth in Kubtur, today.

11:00 am: About 6 per cent of the electorate cast their votes in the first two hours of polling for the by-elections to three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies in Karnataka.

10:35 am: Anand Nyamagouda, Congress candidate from legislative assembly constituency of Jamkhandi casts his vote at polling booth number 125.

10:26 am:

10:17 am: Voting turnout till 9 am - Parliamentary constituencies Bellary 4.40%, Shimoga 8.61% and Mandya 4.18%. Legislative assembly constituencies Jamkhandi 9% and Ramnagar 8%

10:00 am: Voting delayed at polling booth 179 in Mottedoddi of Ramanagaram after a snake was spotted; resumed after the snake was removed.

9:41 am:

9:30 am: Shivamogga polling percentage at 9am  8.61 %.

9:25 am: Ballari polling percentage at 9 am 4.40%.

9:02 am: BJP candidate Srikant Kulkarni casts his vote at booth no. 150 in Hirepadasalgi village of Jamkhandi

8:56 am: Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa casts his vote at a polling booth in ward no 132 at Shikaripura in Shimoga.

8:30 am: More than 35,000 polling personnel have been deployed on duty for the bypolls, in which 8,922 voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines are being used.

07:39 am: 101% my son (BS Raghavendra) is going to win the Shimoga seat. We are also going to win Bellary and Jamkhandi. We will get absolute majority in all the constituencies: Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa

07:00 am: Voting for three parliamentary constituencies and two legislative assembly constituencies begin

06:53 am: Two women, Anitha, wife of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, and J. Shantha, sister of BJP legislator B. Sriramulu, are contesting from Ramanagaram and Bellary (reserved) seats respectively.

06:30 am: Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Bellary (ST), Mandya and Shimoga parliamentary constituencies and Jamkhandi and Ramanagaram assembly segments under tight security.
