The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday (October 6) announced dates for Assembly elections to be held in five states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram. While Chattisgarh will vote in two phases, other states will vote in a single phase. Counting of votes in all the five states will be done on December 11.
The election in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram will be held on November 28. Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 12 and 20. Voting in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held in a single phase on December 7.
However, the key to form the new governments in these states lies in the hands of new voters.

As per the Election Commission, this time in MP, there are 36.97 lakh new voters (an increased from 4,66,36,788 to 5,03,34,260).
Likewise, in Rajasthan, there are more than 66 lakh new voters (an increase from 4,08,29,312 to 4,74,79,402).
In Chhattisgarh, 16.50 lakh voters have increased (from 1,68,95,762 to 1,85,45,819).
According to EC, in Mizoram too, there are more than 77 thousand new voters.
While announcing the dates for Assembly elections in five states, Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in all these states immediately.
