In the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched his party's election campaign. He took part in a roadshow which started from Lalghati Chowk. The 15-kilometer-long roadshow concluded at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's Dussehra Maidan.
After seeking the blessings of more than 11 Hindu priests, he embarked his road show in the capital city of the state.
He will also address party workers in Bhopal.
"A T-shape ramp has been constructed near the stage from where Rahul Gandhi is going to take questions from party workers and interact with them," said state party spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi, reported news agency PTI.
"Congress unit in the state is excited as party leader is coming to launch the election campaign", Chaturvedi further said.
Before Gandhi's visit, posters and cutouts of Congress president and other party leaders came up in Bhopal. In the posters, Gandhi was shown as a devotee of Lord Shiva.
Security has been tightened in the city and an extra force of 1,500 policemen have already been deputed.
By the year-end, Assembly elections are slated to take place in the state which is presently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
