The DMK, the BJP are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from DMK won the seat with a margin of 347,209 votes. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi was polled 563,143 votes with a vote share of 57.00 % and defeated Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan from BJP who got 215,934 votes (21.77 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Jeyasingh Thiyagaraj Natterjee.j from AIADMK won the seat and was polled 366,052 votes with a vote share of 39.92%.
