The CPI, the ADMK are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Selvaraj M from CPI won the seat with a margin of 211,353 votes. Selvaraj M was polled 522,892 votes with a vote share of 52.00 % and defeated Saravanan M from ADMK who got 311,539 votes (31.06 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Gopal.
