Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the BJP's poll campaign for next year's Lok Sabha polls in Assam by addressing a rally in Silchar on January 4.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said, "The rally in Silchar is part of the Prime Minister's first phase of poll campaign across the country."
The BJP has set its eyes on the northeastern states as all the states, except for Mizoram, are now ruled either by the saffron party or others supported by it.
While the BJP is setting the target to win 21 out of the 25 parliamentary seats in eight states in the region, in Assam the party hopes to win at least 11 of the 14 seats.
Giving details about the party's preparations for the LS polls, Dass said that the party has so far appointed over 1.80 lakh grassroot level party workers called 'Pristha Pramukh' (page observers).
He added that by January 15 next year 3.30 lakh Pristha Pramukhs will be appointed to strengthen the party's organisational base further.
Asked about the continuation of its alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Dass said that the alliance was made by the Central leadership in 2016 and that the Central leadership will take a decision on whether to continue the alliance with the AGP or not.
