Lok Sabha Polls, April 26: As it happened

Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Friday. He filed his nomination papers at 11.30 am in the presence of senior NDA leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Friday. He was accompanied by bigwigs including JDU president Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, Shiromani Akali Dal's Parkash Singh Badal and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan. PM Narendra Modi  filed his nomination papers at 11.30 am. 

On Friday, the PM also addressed booth heads and party workers at 9.30 am.

In the evening, PM Modi flew to Mumbai and addressed a public rally. During his speech, he lauded the "Spirit of Mumbai"  by saying that Mumbaikars have always chosen to keep moving in the face of great difficulties including terror attacks. He lashed out at Congress for what he called their "anti-middle class" mindset and policies.

On Thursday, a day before filing his nomination, PM Narendra Modi held a "major roadshow" in Varanasi. After the roadshow, the Prime Minister participated in the Ganga Arti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

"After this program, around 11 am, the PM will go and worship the city god Kal Bhairav. At 11.30 am, PM will file his nomination for Varanasi Lok Sabha seat," said a BJP release. Stay tuned here for more updates.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi has file his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Top NDA leaders including Sushma Swaraj, Uddhav Thackeray, Nitish Kumar, Prakash Singh Badal, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Ram Vilas Paswan were present in a show of solidarity with the Prime Minister.
