If Avengers are made in Bollywood, he will perhaps be a frontrunner to play Thor. If Thor has Mjolnir, the hammer that no one elese can lift, our own Sunny Deol has Dhai Kilo Ka Haath that has dispatched many villains before their due Tareekh. When it comes to him, it's hard to steer clear of filmy lines.
This was perhaps true in case of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM tweeted "Hindustan Zinabad Tha, Hai, Aur Rahega" along with his photo with the actor-turned-politician.
"What struck me about @iamsunnydeol is his humility and deep passion for a better India. Happy to have met him today. We are all rooting for his victory in Gurdaspur!" The PM said in his tweet.
Sunny Deol joined BJP on April 23, that is, not even a week ago. BJP soon announced that Deol will be its candidate from Gurdaspur in Punjab.
BJP is surely banking on Sunny Deol's popularity and his image as a 'patriot'. His roles in various films like Border, Gadar, Chandani have helped cement this perception about him.
He is not the only high-profile name to enter politics this election season. Actress Urmila Matondkar, cricketer Gautam Gambhir are other famous personalities who have taken a political plunge.
Twitterati exploded at the news of Sunny Deol joining BJP. People posted their interesting takes at the news.
The Opposition, particularly the Congress was understandably unhappy at Sunny Deol joining BJP.
"He (Deol) is a filmy 'fauji' (soldier), while I am a real 'fauji'," said Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. His was apparently referring to Sunny Deol's role in the blockbuster film Border.
Amarinder Singh went to on downplay Sunny Deol's candidature from Gurdaspur and said that he does not pose any electoral threat to Congress and will be defeated in Lok Sabha Elections.
