Lok Sabha elections 2019: Just seven months before the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said it will focus on winning at least 25 seats out of the 100 it plans to contest in the general elections to better position itself in case of a non-BJP government formation.

A senior party leader said, winning 25 Lok Sabha seats will ensure the AAP is in a "comfortable" position to strike a bargain with other parties.

"The party is eyeing 100 potential seats. We will do whatever it takes to win at least 25 seats, particularly in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, where we have a strong presence and effective organisational setup," the leader said, reported news agency PTI.

In the three states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the party will contest LS elections 2019 (where Assembly elections are due later this year) besides focussing on Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, he said. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are other states where it plans to contest selected Lok Sabha seats, news agency further reported.

Currently, in Punjab, the AAP holds four Lok Sabha seats. The state has 13 Lok Sabha seats.

Just a few months before the LS polls, the AAP leadership has increased its attacks on Narendra Modi government. On Saturday, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that PM Modi must call a special session of Parliament to discuss the Rafale deal.

After former French president Francois Hollande's purported interview to a French-language publication, on Friday, Kejriwal asked the BJP-led central government to come clean on the entire episode.

Hollande, in the interview, is quoted as saying that the Government of India proposed Reliance Defence (Anil Ambani's company) as the offset partner for French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation in the Rs 58,000-crore deal.

However, the Modi government on Saturday denied charges.
