On Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath calling the Army "Modiji ki sena" (Narendra Modi's army), the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday sought a report from the Ghaziabad District Magistrate. In Lucknow, the DM would have to submit the report to the Chief Electoral Officer by Tuesday noon, an Election Commission official said.
On Sunday, during a rally in Ghaziabad, the UP CM had described the Indian Army as 'Modiji ki sena", sparking criticism from the opposition parties.
The opposition parties on Monday slammed Yogi for politicising the armed forces and demanded an apology.
"Congress used to serve terrorists biryani and 'Modi-ji's sena' gives them only 'golis' and 'golas' (bullets and bombs). That is the difference," Yogi Adityanath had said at the rally.
The ECI, on March 9, had instructed political parties not to use defence personnel and their achievements for their election campaigning.
