EC punishes Yogi Adityanath, Mayawati: Both leaders banned for violating Model Code of Conduct

Both the leaders have been banned for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by making objectionable statements in their speeches.

The Election Commission of India (ECI), on Monday, banned Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP chief Mayawati from election campaigning for 72 hours and 48 hours respectively, starting from 6 am tomorrow.

Both the leaders have been banned for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by making objectionable statements in their speeches. 

The order has come just a few days before the second phase of polling (on April 18) for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.   

The general elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May and on the same day the results will be declared.
