The booth-level workers of the Congress party will conduct a massive people contact and funds collection programme in Karnataka from October 2, AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge KC Venugopal said. In view of the run-up to the 2019 general elections, the party will conduct a door-to-door Sampark Abhiyan and fund collection programme between October 2 to October 19.
Congress workers, along with leaders and booth presidents will go house-to-house and provide campaign material and will request to them for funds, Venugopal confirmed.
"This is a new programme for Karnataka. Our entire Congress leaders should be on the street and remote places for collecting money and to campaign for the parliament election," he said.
A collection of at least Rs 10,000 will be expected by each booth. 50 per cent of the collected amount will got to the AICC, said the Congress general secretary.
20 per cent of the balance will go to the block committees, while 15 per cent will go each to the district Congress committees and Pradesh Congress Committee.
The party is also expected to run a special programme called ‘Shakti’, said Venugopal, adding the programme is aimed at keeping a constant connect between the party and people. This programme will be taken up in a rapid and aggressive manner, he said.
The programme aims to put special focus on people in the age group of 18 and 21, he added.
Relevant data on each voter and donor will also be collected by the party, which can be synergised with the Shakti programme, Venugopal said.
"We are very much confident that we can win majority of seats from Karnataka in the coming parliament election. Before that, we are equipping our party functionaries from grassroots to top level," said the Congress general secretary.
Venugopal accused the BJP of corruption and said the Rafale deal was a point in case.
The BJP intentionally did not appoint Lokpal as the institution would have exposed the government’s "wrongdoings”, he said.
