Karnataka Election Results, 2018 LIVE Updates: Reacting to BJP's good performance in Karnataka Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today thanked party chief Amit Shah and other party workers for the saffron party's "victory" in the state.

Heaping praise on BJP chief Amit Shah, PM Modi said that  if one wants to know how an ideal party worker functions, he does not need to look anywhere else other than the BJP president. The prime minister also accused Congress of hurting Indian Constitution for petty political gains.

Earlier in the day, in their bid to stop BJP from forming a government in Karnataka, JD(S) accepted Congress' proposal for alliance with Deve Gowda's son Kumaraswamy as the the chief minister of the proposed alliance government. The JD(S) and Congress have approached the Governor with a letter of support to put forward their demand to form a government in the state.

The Governor of Karnataka is likely to invite the BJP to form a government in the state as it has emerged as the single largest party. Meanwhile, top BJP leaders have rushed to the poll-bound state to handle the political turmoil, that was already predicted by pollsters.

In a dramatic twist, the Congress today offered support to JD(S) to form the government after the BJP, which was emerging as the single largest party, appeared to be falling short of majority.

The counting of votes for 222 of the 224 Assembly seats is being carried out across at 58,546 polling stations at nearly 38 counting centres. Polling for R R Nagar seat was deferred on account of alleged electoral malpractices, while it was countermanded in Jayanagar seat following the death of the BJP candidate.
