Two incidents of violence have been reported in Jharkhand on Saturday where polling for the second phase on 20 Assembly seats is underway. At least one person was killed and six others including policemen were injured in clashes and subsequent police firing in Jharkhand's Gumla district.
The highest polling has been recorded in the Sraikel Assembly seat with 15.66 per cent and lowest at Kolebira with 8.5 per cent.
The highest number of candidates are in East Jamshedpur and West Jamshedpur with 20 on each seat while Seraikela has the least number - seven candidates. The second phase of the Jharkhand assembly polls will decide the fate of heavyweights in the state.
Jharkhand is going for the second phase of Assembly polls on December 7. The state is holding a five-phases election owing to maoist violence. Jharkhand will be the third BJP-ruled state to hold elections in 2019, after Maharashtra and Haryana, which voted on October 21.
These constituencies, comprising all 14 seats of the Kolhan division and six of the South Chottanagpur division, fall in the Maoist-infested areas of the state.
Though the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is striving to put up a good show to regain power in the state, claims that importance of regional parties and leaders have declined of late, local political pundits beg to differ.
