Attacking the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the party has shown unbelievable disrespect towards the people of Gujarat.
Slamming the saffron party ahead of the first phase of polling in Gujarat, the Gandhi scion said that the campaigning is over and still there is no mention of manifesto for the people. "The BJP has shown unbelievable disrespect towards the people of Gujarat. Campaign is over and STILL no mention of a manifesto for the people, no vision and no ideas presented for Gujarat’s future", he tweeted.
The Congress, which is in political wilderness in Gujarat for 22 years, is desperate to break the jinx. It has raised issues such as the BJP's "hollow development model", "the prime minister's proximity with select industrialists", besides demonetisation and GST, at the hustings.
The high-octane campaign for the first phase of the crucial Gujarat Assembly polls, viewed as a prestige battle for PM Narendra Modi and a litmus test for the leadership of soon-to-be Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, came to an end on Thursday.
The Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. Counting of votes will take place on December 18 along with that of Himachal Pradesh.
