Former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday once again attacked the Narendra Modi Government for the decisions like Demonetisation and GST and said that the fear of tax terrorism has eroded the confidence of Indian business to invest in the country.
While addressing the traders in Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Manmohan Singh launched sharp attack on the Modi Government and said again that the decision of notebandi was organised loot and legalised plunder.
"I repeat what I said in the Parliament, this was organised loot and legalised plunder," the former PM said while addressing a gathering of traders in Ahmedabad.
Later, Gujarat Chief Minister posted a series of tweets and asked the former PM to apologise to the people of Gujarat for stalling work on Narmada Dam for 10 years.
With the fresh development today, a war of words has erupted a day before November 8 when the Government has planned to celebrate 'Anti-Black Money Day'
Here's what former prime minister Manmohan Singh said while attacking Narendra Modi Government on GST and Demonetisation in Ahmedabad-
# This attitude of suspecting everyone to be thief or anti-national, low level rhetoric is damaging to democratic discourse.
# By questioning bullet trains does one become anti-development? Does questioning GST & Demonetisation make one a tax evader?
# When undertaking endeavour of 1 nation 1 tax if PM had taken inspiration from resolve of great Sardar Patel, outcome would've been different.
# Did PM consider alternative of the high speed train by upgrading broad gauge railway?
# Bullet train, launched with much fan fare, is an exercise in vanity.
# Unprecedented growth of imports by over Rs 45,000 crore, a 23% increase in a year, can be attributed largely to demonetisation, GST.
# I can proudly say that we lifted 140 million people out of poverty.
# In 1st half of 2016-17 India's imports from China stood at Rs 1.96 Lakh Crore. In 2017-18 it increased to Rs 2.41 Lakh Cr.
# The fear of tax terrorism has eroded the confidence of Indian business to invest.
# We had to run for Chinese imports at the cost of Indian jobs.
# This twin (Demonetisation and GST) blow is complete disaster for our economy, it has broken the back of our small businesses.
# I repeat what I said in the Parliament, this was organised loot and legalised plunder.
# To promote less cash economy coercive steps like Demonetisation are ineffective.
# No where in the world has any nation taken such a drastic step that swept off 86% of the currency.
# Tomorrow (Nov 8) we mark one year since the disastrous policy was thrust on the people of our country.
# November 8 was a black day for our economy and indeed our democracy.
Here's what Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said in response to Manmohan Singh's fresh attack against Modi Government on the issue of GST and Demonetisation-
# Whose corrupt deeds were you protecting for ten years as Prime Minister, we ask Dr. Singh.
# Did UPA undertake even a single measure to bring back a paisa of Black Money back to India?
# Dr. Singh, we know silence is your way but you could at least have spoken when crores of rupees left India as black money in your term.
# Dr. Manmohan Singh, as the Minister concerned, were you complicit or complacent in the coal scam?
# As PM of the most corrupt Government in India’s history, shouldn’t Dr. Singh apologise to 125 crore Indians?
# Being an economist, one would expect Dr. Singh to make business environment easier but UPA made it tougher. What was the reason?
# Dr. Manmohan Singh, why was there zero effort on your part about improving ‘ease of doing business’ rankings in India and helping MSME sector.
# How about saying sorry for singing Pakistan’s tune at the Sharm El Sheikh Summit Dr. Manmohan Singh?
# For 10 years, UPA used the full might of the state machinery and subjected then CM Modi ji to witch hunt. Why?
# Dr. Singh, please apologise to people of Gujarat for stalling work on Narmada Dam for 10 year. What sinister motives guided you?
# Why do Dr. Manmohan Singh, Smt. Sonia Gandhi and UPA have an anti-Gujarat mindset?
# Being an economist shouldn’t Dr. Manmohan Singh have supported GST, which benefits every Indian?
# Will Dr. Manmohan Singh apologise for policy paralysis, development stagnation & rampant corruption during 10 years of UPA?
# Gujarat extends a warm welcome to Dr. Manmohan Singh. People of Gujarat are also keen to ask him a few questions.
Gujarat will go to polls next month in two phases -- December 9 and 14. The counting of votes will take place on December 18.
