Dharamlal Kaushik is the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Chhattisgarh. Kaushik was the Leader of the Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly from 2019 to 2022 after the BJP lost the state election in 2018. He was also the Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2014. Kaushik also remained as the chief of BJP's Chhattisgarh unit from 2014 to 2019. Kaushik won the Bilha constituency in undivided Madhya Pradesh in 1998 and again in 2008 and 2018. Kaushik lost the Bilha seat in 1993, 2003 and 2013. He is again contesting from the same constituency against Congress candidate Siyaram Kaushik. Dharampal lost to Siyaram twice in the past in 2003 and 2013
