Mushtaq Ahmad Shah was polled 12,415 votes with a vote share of 38.56 % and defeated Mohd Ashraf Bhat from JKN who got 8,305 votes (25.80 %). In the 2008 Assembly Elections, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah from JKPDP won the seat and was polled 10,393 votes with a vote share of 28.47%.
