The BSP, that contested on 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh Assembly, won Rasara seat. BSP candidate Umashankar Singh defeated Mahendra of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party by a margin of over 6,500 votes.
This time, while the SP fielded much smaller number of Muslim candidates -- 64 -- primarily in an attempt to shed the tag of its MY (Muslim - Yadav) combination being its core constituency, the BSP fielded 88 Muslims while the Congress fielded another 75.

BJP won assembly polls in the 4 states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur ruled by it, sweeping away opposition parties with its governance model mounted on pillars of welfarism, Hindutva and Modi's unflagging popularity.
Channi had contested the elections from two seats—Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib. Bhadaur AAP candidate Labh Singh Ugoke defeated Channi by a comprehensive margin of 37,558 votes.
Amarinder, who had formed Punjab Lok Congress, after a bitter exit from the Congress, also lost from Patiala in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
Elections for 13 Rajya Sabha seats are set to be held on March 31, while 20 more seats are set to fall vacant in June, followed by 33 in July and two in August.
"UP election results are opposed to BSP's expectations. We should not be discouraged by it. Instead, we should learn from it, introspect and carry forward our party movement, and come back to power," Mayawati said.
Among the ministers who lost is outgoing deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya who lost to the Samajwadi Party's Pallavi Patel by 7,337 votes in the Sirathu seat.
The BJP, which used to be a junior partner during its alliance with the SAD, fought this election with the Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led SAD (Sanyukt).
The Samajwadi Party, however, managed to perform way better than 2017, and gained 111 seats this time, more than double what it did five years back. Its vote share increased by more than 10% this time.
The BJP's win in Uttar Pradesh is a record as no party has won consecutive elections in the country's most populous state in nearly four decades.
Despite giving a tough fight to BJP and improving its seat share in the Vidhan Sabha elections this year, SP failed to cross the halfway mark of 202 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
SS Olish (Chandel), former Minister Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi), Sagolshem Kebi Devi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), all BJP, and Irengbam Nalini Devi (Oinam seat) and Pukhrambam Sumati Devi of National People's Party (NPP) won their seats, defeating their male rivals.
"In Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi has been blessed for the fourth time consecutively- 2014 Lok Sabha, 2017 Vidhan Sabha, 2019 Lok Sabha and now, in the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections," the BJP president said.
The Bhartiya Janata Party won the Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttarakhand with a thumping majority. However, present CM Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the elections from the Khatima constituency on Thursday.
The Apna Dal contested 17 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and as per the latest data issued by the Election Commission, it won 12 of them.
Most of the current and former ministers of the Punjab government lost the poll battle to the AAP candidates.
