The Haryana Government's Directorate of School Education announced on Friday that the winter break for the schools would be from January 1 to January 15. The announcement would be applicable to all public and private schools within the state. In a notification, the Directorate of Schools Education said the schools will reopen on January 16 (Thursday).
In the notification issued to the District Education Officer, Block Education Officer, and School Principals, the Assistant Director of Education said, "Winter holidays are declared in all the state schools from January 1, 2025, to January 15, 2025. Schools will be reopened as usual from January 16, 2025 (Thursday)."
The notification, however, added that for practicals, the schools may call the students according to the board examination schedule and the norms of CBSE, ICSE Board, etc. Notably, the western disturbances have brought strong winters to the state. Meanwhile, the rains have also lashed the state, bringing the mercury further down.
On Friday Haryana witnessed heavy rainfall and hailstorms. Chandigarh saw its maximum temperature settling at 15.9 degrees Celsius - eight degrees below normal for the season. Several districts of Haryana witnessed rainfall including Jind, Hisar, Bhiwani, Rohtak, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Jhajjar, Panipat and Sonipat. The rains continued on the night of Friday and early on Saturday.
The Meteorological Department had already issued a warning of rain along with hail in the state. The Meteorological Department had said that in 16 districts of the state, there may be rain along with hailstorms and wind at the speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. The met department had issued an orange alert in 18 districts of Haryana and a yellow alert in 4 districts.
