The National Testing Agency has extended the registration date for the University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC - NET) 2024 from May 15 to May 19. The decision to extend the deadline has been taken after considering requests from the candidates. The changes have been made for two consecutive times. Previously, the last date to register was May 10 which was extended to May 15. It’s now extended further till May 19. All those who have not yet registered for the said exam now register on or before May 19, 11:59 pm.
Important dates:
The candidates can submit the examination fees through UPI, credit card, debit card and Net Banking till May 20, which has been extended from the earlier dates- May 16 to 17. Candidates can also make corrections in the particulars in online application form from May 21 to 23, which have been changed from the dates- May 18 to 20.

What was said in the notice?
In the public notice released by NTA, it was officially stated that - 'In continuation to the Public Notice dated the 20 April 2024 regarding submission of online application form for UGC – NET June 2024 for (i) award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor (ii) appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD and (iii) admission to PhD only in Indian universities and colleges. NTA decided to extend the last date for submission of an online application form for UGC – NET to June 2024, enabling the aspiring candidate(s) to apply.'
Exam date and pattern
The UGC NET 2024 exam initially scheduled for June 16th faced a date change due to candidate feedback. The National Testing Agency (NTA) listened to concerns and rescheduled the exam for June 18th, 2024. This shift aimed to avoid a clash with the UPSC CSE (Civil Services Exam) also scheduled for the 16th.
The National Testing Agency is conducting the UGC-NET 2024 exam which is scheduled for June 18. The exam will be offered in 83 subjects and consist of two pen-and-paper-based tests. Paper 1 will be general, testing teaching and research aptitude, while Paper 2 will focus on the candidate's chosen subject. There's no negative marking, and both papers will contribute to the final score.
UGC - NET 2024 will be conducted to determine the eligibility for candidates for ‘ Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor’, ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’, and ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ for the academic year 2024-25 at various universities and colleges across the nation.
