The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a series of frequently asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) results which were declared on June 4. This year, the testing agency conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 on May 5, for over 24 lakh candidates at 4,750 centres in 571 cities across the country, including 14 cities outside India.

On June 4, the results of NEET UG 2024 were announced unknowingly which drew immediate attention due to an unusually high number of candidates achieving a perfect score of 720/720. As per the results, this year, a total of 67 students have achieved the top score in the medical exams. After that, many applicants, and stakeholders raised concerns over the compensatory marks that were awarded to a few students who appeared in the exam due to the loss of their time at the exam centers. To clarify these allegations and concerns on the result process, the testing agency has released a list of frequently asked questions which include the process of the exam, marks scheme, compensatory marks, and other information.

In response to the questions of compensatory marks, NTA stated that a few writ petitions were filed by NEET UG 2024 before the Hon'ble High Courts for loss of exam time in the NEET UG 2024 exam at a few centers. Accordingly, a Grievance Redressal Committee was formed which considered the grievances/representations based on factual reports of the functionaries and CCTV footage from concerned exam Centres. To compensate for the loss of time, such candidates were compensated with compensatory marks, reads official notice.

How were the NEET UG Compensatory marks calculated?

The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with marks based on their answering efficiency and time lost, as per the mechanism/ formula established by the Hon’ble Apex Court, vide its judgment dated 13.06.2018 in W.P. 551 of 2018. 1563 candidates were compensated for the loss of time, as per the official release.

How can any candidate score 718 and 719 marks in the NEET (UG) – 2024?

Due to the compensatory marks, two candidates happened to secure 718 and 719 marks.
