CBSE paper leak: Board to reconduct Class X Maths and Class XII Economics exams; Delhi Police Crime Branch registers case

Delhi Police Crime Branch has registered a case following a complaint filed by the Central Board of Secondary Education over Class X Maths and Class XII Economic exam paper leak.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will reconduct the examinations for Class XII Economics and Class X Mathematics in view of 'certain reported irregulations', an official notification said on Wednesday. The CBSE board has said that it will announce fresh dates on its official website within a week.

"With the view to uphold the sanctity of the Board Examination and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the Board has decided to re-conduct the examinations," the official statement said. 

According to media reports, the question paper of the Class X Mathematics exam, held today, was available online since midnight. Similar reports of question paper leak surfaced a few days ago while Class XII students of CBSE board were giving the Accountancy exam, but the board had dismissed the allegations after an enquiry. 

Reacting to the news, Union Minister for HRD Prakash Javadeker confirmed that the paper was leaked on WhatsApp in some parts of the country and a police complaint has been filed in the matter. 

"Investigation is underway and strict action will be taken," the minister told media adding that the ministry has decided to tighten security for the time when papers are being distributed. 

"The examinations are conducted across the country but this has been reported only from a few schools in Delhi. Cabinet has approved for National Testing Agency to come into effect from next year to ensure leak-proof examination," he added.

The minister reaction came moments after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with him to expressed his unhappiness over the paper leak and asked for a strict action, ANI quoted its sources as saying.

The CBSE board has also registered a complaint with the crime branch of Delhi Police.

Board has taken cognizance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations as are being reported. With the view to uphold the sanctity of the Board Examination and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the Board has decided to re-conduct the examinations in the following subjects. Dates for fresh examinations and the other details shall be hosted on the CBSE website within a week.
