In a fervour protest against Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government, BJP’s Mahila Manch members in Delhi protested outside Finance Minister Atishi Marlena on Monday to fulfill his promise of providing Rs.1000 per month honorarium to the women.
Hundreds of women with placards in their hands reached outside the residence of Atishi and demanded the money. While raising slogans one woman said, “If you have made us fill out forms, you will have to provide us Rs 1000.”
"The AAP government announced Rs 1000 per month honorarium for women in its budget. It was not some poll promise. So, the government should now provide the money to the women," said one of the protesters Safia Faheem.
Giving details about the protest, a police officer said the protesters were dispersed and no one was detained. "Some women protested in front of the house of minister Atishi. No one was detained as they were protesting peacefully," said a senior police officer.
Why women protested?
Notably, Atishi Marlena who holds the portfolio of finance minister along with many others had promised during the budgetary speech of fiscal year 2024-25 that women above the age of 18 years will be provided with Rs 1000 as financial assistance by the Delhi government. However, no women have received the amount so far.
Atishi reacts on the protest
Meanwhile, Atishi addressed a press conference and reacted on protests. She said that the protest was staged by the opposition BJP’s women wing showing their “desperateness” to clinch votes.
"It was the BJP's women wing who staged the protest. This shows the BJP's desperateness. They know the people of Delhi want to see Kejriwal as the chief minister again, they know the chief minister will fulfil his promise of giving Rs 1,000. That's why they are staging such protests to scrap a few votes here and there in his name,” c
She said that the protest shows the restlessness of the BJP. Atishi added that Vidhan Sabha elections are ahead and BJP knows that people want to see Arvind Kejriwal as the CM.
