The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are the main parties in the constituency. BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj, AAP leader Somnath Bharti and BSP leader Raaj Kumar Anand were the main candidates in New Delhi constituency of Delhi.
Notably, the Congress-AAP are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi in alliance. The AAP contested on four seats while three were allotted to Congress. The four seats on which AAP contested the Lok Sabha polls were New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and East Delhi. The Congress' seat were North West Delhi, North East Delhi and Chandni Chowk seats.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Meenakashi Lekhi from BJP won the seat with a margin of 256,504 votes. Meenakashi Lekhi was polled 504,206 votes with a vote share of 55.00 per cent and defeated Ajay Makan from Congress who got 247,702 votes (26.91 per cent).
