Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs at his CM residence in Civil Lines on Sunday (May 12). This was his first meeting with the legislators after his limited outing of 21 days from the Tihar Jail, effected by the Supreme Court judgment giving him interim bail for election campaigning. He walked out of jail on May 10 following the top court’s order.
Kejriwal addresses MLAs
Kejriwal on Sunday claimed that the BJP's plan was to topple the AAP governments in Punjab and Delhi after his arrest but this did not fructify. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) became more united "after my arrest", the Delhi chief minister said while addressing MLAs of his party following a meeting here.
"BJP people would say before my arrest that they will break the party and topple the governments in Delhi and Punjab," Kejriwal said. "They had a plan that they will arrest me, break the party, topple the government in Delhi and then in Punjab also. After arrest, their plan failed. You all did not break," he said.
Atishi on Kejriwal's meeting
After the meeting, Atishi said, "Today, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with MLAs. All the MLAs expressed their happiness on his release. BJP's attempt to break AAP has completely failed. After Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, AAP has become stronger and has emerged as a family. AAP has fought this dictatorship together, and after Arvind Kejriwal's release, we will defeat this dictatorship."
A day after his release, he visited Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place in the city and held a roadshow in the national capital in the evening along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
He also held a press conference at the party office in Delhi yesterday and launched a scathing attack on the BJP. According to party sources, the key meeting will focus on deliberations over the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi scheduled for May 25.
Kejriwal's attacks BJP
Kejriwal attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at his press conference yesterday and asked who will be their PM as Prime Minister Modi is turning 75 on September 17 this year.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, "These people ask the I.N.D.I.A bloc who will be their Prime Minister. I ask BJP who will be your Prime Minister? PM Modi is turning 75, on 17th September. He made a rule that leaders in the party would retire after 75 years. LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan, and Yashwant Sinha were retired and now PM Modi is going to retire on 17th September."
