Delhi Weather Update: IMD issues orange alert till July 3, predicts heavy rainfall today

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi, predicting heavy rain until July 3.

Delhi is likely to witness heavy rain on Sunday, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an 'orange' alert for the city until July 3.

The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees below the season's average. The humidity level was 78% at 8:30 am, according to the weather office, which also noted that 9 mm of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours.

The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 34 degrees Celsius, the weather department added while also predicting a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain until Tuesday.

Meanwhile, amid the parts of national capital lashed with heavy rains, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded in the satisfactory category, with a reading of 97 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.


IMD issues 7 days forecast

The Indian Metrological Department has also issued the weather forecast for the coming week, where it predicted spell of rains throughout the week.

Other details

Meanwhile, in a statement released on Sunday (June 30), IMD also predicted light to moderate spell of rainfall at many places (with intense spell at a few places) accompanied with isolated thunderstorm & cloud to ground lightning and gusty winds during next 3 hours.. The IMD said, the places include, "Punjab & adjoining Himachal Pradesh, southwest & adjoining extreme northwest Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh & adjoining extreme north Chhattisgarh, southeast Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, south Gujarat, south Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, south Karnataka, North Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya." 

 

It also predicted, a light to moderate spell of rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds very likely over, Odisha, Konkan, Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep and Nicobar Islands during next 3 hours.
