The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light rain for Delhi on Friday, June 7, accompanied by dust storms or thunderstorms. Strong surface winds, blowing at 25 to 35 kmph speeds, are expected throughout the day. The regional meteorological centre in New Delhi has predicted a partly cloudy sky with very light rain and strong gusty winds. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 43 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will likely be 29 degrees Celsius.

Broader weather pattern

According to the latest IMD bulletin, isolated to scattered light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on June 6 and 7. A dust storm is anticipated over these regions on June 6 and in Rajasthan on June 6 and 7. Isolated hailstorms are likely over West Rajasthan on June 7.

Upcoming weather

Similar cloudy conditions are expected on June 8, while clear skies with gusty winds are forecasted for June 9. From June 10 to June 12, Delhi will likely experience partly cloudy skies with strong surface winds.

Influence of western disturbance

The IMD attributed the weather change to a new western disturbance affecting the region. A strong dust storm hit Delhi-NCR on Thursday night, bringing some relief from the heat as temperatures dropped. The maximum temperature fell from 44 degrees Celsius to 41.2 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal.

Temperature observations

On Thursday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, with relative humidity fluctuating between 39% and 57%. Safdarjung, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded a high of 41.2 degrees Celsius. Other stations reported maximum temperatures as follows: Najafgarh at 44.4 degrees Celsius, Narela at 42.8 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar at 43.2 degrees Celsius, Ridge at 40.6 degrees Celsius, and Palam at 42.3 degrees Celsius.
