Delhi Water Minister Atishi, who two days ago announced to resort to indefinite hunger strike, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in resolving the ongoing shortage of water in Delhi, began her 'satyagraha' at noon on Friday. She started her strike in south Delhi's Bhogal at noon to press on her demand for getting 100 million gallons of water per day from Haryana.
Delhi minister, in a post on X, said despite all efforts, the Haryana government was not releasing the full share of Delhi's water.
"I will start 'Pani Satyagraha' from today...I will start an indefinite fast at Bhogal, Jangpura from 12 o'clock until the people of Delhi get their rightful share of water from Haryana," she said on X.
The minister earlier claimed that Haryana for the last two weeks was releasing 100 million gallons per day less water to Delhi against its share of 613 MGD, as a result, 28 lakh people in Delhi were affected.
Delhi is facing an unprecedented heatwave as a result the water demand has increased.
'Satyamev Jayate,' says Atishi on bail to Kejriwal
In another development, Atishi reacted to the grant of bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday by saying 'Satyamev Jayate" (truth alone triumphs). Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement directorate on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now scrapped excise policy of his government.
"Satyamev Jayate," Delhi minister Atishi posted on X.
Feeling vindicated, the Aam Aadmi Party said truth cannot be defeated, only harassed.
"Truth can be troubled, not defeated. Rejecting all the objections raised by BJP's ED, the Honorable Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister @ArvindKejriwal," the party said in a post on X.
