Delhi power tariff hike: Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved the demand of BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani following which the Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) has been increased in the national capital. Apart from North Delhi where TDPL supplies electricity in the name of PPAC, the power tariff will become costlier for the rest of Delhi. The tariff has been increased by about 7% in the Yamuna area and about 10% in the BSES Rajdhani area. PPAC charge is levied on the total unit of electricity used by the consumer.

Hike will be applied if...

According to AAP leader Atishi, residents of Delhi with monthly usage of over 200 units will have to pay more after an 8 per cent hike in the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC). While interacting with the reporters, Atishi alleged that electricity is getting costlier in the city due to the Centre's "mismanagement".

She further old reporters that the hike will not impact consumers whose electricity consumption is 200 units or below. "There will be a 8 per cent hike in PPAC surcharge in power bills of those consumers who do not get subsidy," she said.

"I just want to tell the consumers that only the Centre is responsible for this hike. It has forced the use of imported coal, which is 10 times costlier than domestic coal. This is despite no lack of coal mines or availability of coal in the country," she added.

As per the reports, the PPAC is revised every three months. The PPAC can increase or decrease depending on the prevailing prices of fuel such as coal and gas used in power generation.

"Do not worry"

Following the news, AAP leader Atishi Singh said that those who are getting free electricity will continue to get it free, The increase in the PPAC will not have any effect. Those who spend more than 200 units of electricity will have to pay 8% more charge.

Taking a dig at the Centre, Singh said that the electricity tariff in Delhi is increasing only because of the mismanagement of the Central government. "The electricity tariff in Delhi is increasing only because of the mismanagement of the Central government and the increasing rates of coal blocks...There is no shortage of coal mines in India then why is the price of coal increasing, why the electricity producing companies are forced to buy coal at higher rates," said Delhi Minister Atishi.

"The electricity rates have increased due to the connivance of power companies with the Delhi Government, and this is an attack on the people of Delhi," said BJP leader Harish Khurana on the increase of power tariffs in the national capital.
