Owing to the heavy rainfall that lashed the national capital in the last few days, the Delhi Metro recorded over 69 lakh passenger journeys on Friday (June 28), an increase of nearly 7 lakh from the previous day. According to the DMRC data, as many as 69,36,425 passenger journeys were witnessed yesterday, as against 62,58,072 on June 27.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that the metro trains also maintained the punctuality of 99.95 percent despite heavy rains.
“The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recorded over 69 lakh passenger journeys on Friday, even as the Metro services operated without any disruption with a punctuality of 99.95 percent despite the heavy rains that lashed the city and it's peripheries,” DMRC said in a statement.
“On Friday, 28th June 2024, the passenger journeys recorded by DMRC was 69,36,425. A day earlier on Thursday (27th June 2024) the passenger journeys were 62,58,072,” it added.
The figures suggested that a lot of passengers preferred to use the Metro instead of their private vehicles or other modes of travel due to the heavy rainfall in the city, DMRC said.
“Despite some hindrances caused by minor waterlogging outside station premises and entry/exit points, DMRC continued to provide regular services throughout the day yesterday with an excellent punctuality of over 99 percent even though road traffic was completely thrown out of gear due to the rainfall,” it added.
The DMRC recorded the highest number of passenger journeys 71.09 lakh on February 13, 2024.
The monsoon hit the national capital on Friday with its first rainfall, recording a very heavy 153.7 mm at Safdarjung in the three hours between 2.30 am and 5.30 am, according to the India Meteorological Department.
