Delhi Police have apprehended two individuals accused of defrauding a businessman of Rs 2 crore by offering him a Rajya Sabha seat, according to officials on Saturday. The accused allegedly presented two counterfeit documents from the President's Office to gain the victim's confidence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit Meena disclosed that on April 25, the Kishangarh police station received a PCR call reporting the capture of a fraudster, prompting police assistance. Upon arrival at the scene, complainant Narender Singh (63) presented Naveen Kumar Singh, whom he accused of deceiving him.

Narender claimed to have encountered Naveen through an individual named Nanak Das in August 2023. Naveen purported to be a protocol officer at the president's office and persuaded Narender, along with Nanak, to assist him in obtaining a seat in the Parliament's Upper House through the president's quota, as per DCP Meena.

Accused distributed money between them

The accused duo allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore from Narender. During interrogation, Naveen revealed that he, along with a resident of Laxmi Nagar named Karan, forged two documents from the president's office and sent them to Narender to earn his trust. Narender purportedly paid Rs 1.25 crore to Naveen, while Nanak received Rs 75 lakh.

Authorities launched a manhunt for Nanak, culminating in his arrest on Friday. Naveen, on the other hand, was previously implicated in three cases of cheating, prompting police raids on his offices in Delhi and Noida. Efforts are underway to apprehend their accomplice, Karan.
