A tragic accident occurred at the main gate of Ramjas College on Sunday when a white Audi Q3, driven by Virendra Mehta, a lawyer residing in Mukherjee Nagar, lost control and struck two rickshaw pullers who were seated on a bench. The incident took place at 1:16 PM, prompting a swift response from the police.
Upon receiving a PCR call regarding the accident, the investigating officer arrived at the scene and found the Audi in a damaged state. The victims, identified as Govind Sarkar, aged 45, and Ashok, were immediately rushed to Hindu Rao Hospital for medical examination. Due to the severity of his injuries, Govind was later referred to LNJP Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Govind Sarkar, a resident of Mukundpur, was a rickshaw driver.
The police took the accused driver, Virendra Mehta, aged 56, for a medical examination. Initial reports from the hospital indicated that alcohol was not detected in his breath. However, a blood sample has been sent for forensic examination to the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) fur further and detailed examination.
Legal action is being pursued against Mehta, who is currently under investigation. The police have stated that necessary steps will be taken following the completion of the medical and forensic reports.
