The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday released its first list comprising 11 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The party has fielded Mulayam Singh from Badli against Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, Ratan Tyagi from Burari, Khalid Ur Rehman from Chandni Chowk, Mohammad Harun from Balli Maran and Imran Saifi from Okhla.
Other candidates fielded include, Narender Tanwar from Chhatarpur, Namaha from Laxmi Nagar, Jagdish Bhagat from Gokulpuri, Khem Chand from Mangolpuri, Rajesh Lohiya from Seemapuri, and Qamar Ahmad from Sangam Vihar.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in February 2025.
While the ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) has named candidates for all 70 seats, the Congress has fielded 47 candidates so far.
Election Commission holds meeting with political parties
Earlier, in view of the upcoming elections in Delhi, the Election Commission held a meeting with representatives of political parties in central Delhi. BJP MP from New Delhi Bansuri Swaraj, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha and party leader Jasmin Shah attended the meeting. An election commission official said the meeting lasted for around half an hour and covered several topics. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also reviewed poll preparedness for the upcoming Delhi elections.
"CEC Rajiv Kumar along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sandhu review poll preparedness for the upcoming Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. A meeting with enforcement agencies is currently underway. Earlier in the day, the commission met representatives of the political parties," the Election Commission said in a post.
The term of the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly ends on February 23, 2025.
