Arvind Kejriwal had sought extension of his interim bail by seven days to undergo a host of medical tests, including a PET-CT scan, in view of "sudden and unexplained weight loss coupled with high ketone levels", which are indicative of kidney, serious cardiac ailments and even cancer.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's weight on April 1 when he was lodged in the Tihar Jail was 65 kgs, on April 29 it was 66 kgs while on May 9 when he was released from the prison, his weight was 64 kgs, according to sources.

This has come as Arvind Kejriwal filed another plea in a Delhi court seeking interim bail for a week on medical grounds. The Delhi CM is currently out on interim bail, granted by the Supreme Court, in the case till June 1.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that Kejriwal's weight had reduced by 7 kg during the time he was in jail and this could indicate that he may have some major disease, therefore, he has sought relief from the Supreme Court.

Delhi minister Atishi said the ED has opposed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea on medical grounds, as she questioned the probe agency's stand and asked it why it was not allowing the politician to undergo tests as has been suggested by his doctors.

Addressing a press conference, Atishi said Kejriwal experienced sudden and unexplained weight loss during the Enforcement Directorate custody and in judicial custody.

"Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filed an application for seven-day interim bail at the Rouse Avenue Court. He sought an extension to the bail for his health check-ups, because during his ED custody, he lost 6-7 kg of his weight. Such sudden and unexplained weight loss is an indicator of several serious diseases. Not just this, his ketone level has reached a critical level. His sugar level is on a continuous spike," she said.

Atishi claimed that Kejriwal's doctors have advised him to undergo tests for cancer, kidney ailments and heart related issues.

"Why is ED opposing his interim bail plea? Why is the BJP opposing it? I want to ask BJP and ED, 'Why are you opposing Kejriwal's tests?' I want to ask them, 'What did you do to Kejriwal that he experienced unexplained weight loss?'" she said.

A Delhi court on Thursday issued a notice to the ED on Kejriwal's plea seeking regular bail in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja directed the central probe agency to file its response to Kejriwal's plea by Saturday.

The judge also sought the ED's response on another plea of Kejriwal seeking interim bail for a week on medical grounds in case the regular bail plea is not allowed.

The Supreme Court registry on Wednesday refused urgent listing of Kejriwal's plea seeking extension of his interim bail by seven days for undergoing certain medical tests, saying since he was given liberty to move the trial court for regular bail, the plea was not maintainable.

The top court had on May 10 granted 21-day interim bail to the chief minister to enable him to campaign during the Lok Sabha polls. It had directed him to surrender on June 2, a day after the last phase of the seven-phase poll gets over.

The matter relates to the alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.
