Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, recently granted interim bail until June 1 by the Supreme Court, embraced a heartfelt reunion with his family members. Following his release from custody, Kejriwal's priority was to reconnect with his loved ones, marking a poignant moment after a period of legal turmoil.

Having endured the legal proceedings surrounding his arrest in a money laundering case, Kejriwal's reunion with his family served as a poignant reminder of the human aspect amidst the legal intricacies. The Chief Minister's respite from legal battles provided a much-needed opportunity for cherished moments with his family members.

Kejriwal released from Tihar Jail after 50 days

Kejriwal walked out of Tihar jail on Friday after spending 50 days behind bars. His release followed the Supreme Court's decision to grant him interim bail in the excise policy case, where he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, 2024. A jubilant crowd of supporters awaited Kejriwal's release outside Tihar jail. Accompanied by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and AAP leaders Atishi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Sandeep Pathak, Kejriwal headed to his official residence post-release.

Interim bail terms and conditions

Kejriwal's release came with conditions, including a prohibition from visiting the Office of the Chief Minister or the Delhi Secretariat. According to the court order, he must furnish bail bonds worth Rs 50,000 along with one surety of the same amount to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent. Additionally, Kejriwal is barred from interacting with witnesses or accessing official files related to the case. He is also forbidden from commenting on his role in the case.

Impending election campaigns

The interim bail allowed Kejriwal to participate in AAP's election campaigns leading up to the general elections in Delhi scheduled for May 25. Despite his release, the court clarified that the grant of interim bail does not signify an opinion on the merits of the case, which is still pending consideration.
