Earlier services in the operation theatres (OTs) were affected as OTs became non-functional due to the non-functioning of the air-conditioning and water seepage from the walls.

Delhi rains: Authorities of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday said that Operation theatres and emergency department of the trauma centre are fully functional from 7.30 am. The services were temporarily disrupted by the heavy downpour in the national capital on Friday.

"The OT and ED at the trauma centre are fully functional from 7.30 am today. All OTS started at the trauma centre," the AIIMS authorities said.

After heavy rains caused waterlogging in Delhi, services in the operation theatres (OTs) of the Neurosciences Centre at the AIIMS Delhi were disrupted, rendering the OTs non-functional. The national capital recorded 228.1 mm of rainfall on Friday, the highest since 1936 for the month of June. On the first day of heavy rain this season, the capital received one-third of its total monsoon rainfall.

Patients referred to Safdarjung hospital

The hospital administration has earlier issued an order directing patients requiring emergency surgeries to Safdarjung or other government hospitals. The order states: "In discussion with NS OT Sister in-charge, MS (CNC), and the chief CN Centre, all OTs are non-functional due to non-functioning air-conditioning and water seepage from the walls. Hence, no cases can be operated. Any patients coming to emergency requiring surgery should be referred to either Safdarjung or any other government hospital. If there is a case that must be done urgently, it may be taken up in the trauma center after discussing with the concerned faculty."

It is pertinent to note that the heavy rain on Friday not only affected AIIMS but also brought severe waterlogging throughout Delhi, causing significant difficulties for citizens. Many parts of the city were inundated, making it challenging for commuters to walk or drive. Shocking visuals from across the city show rescue efforts being carried out by officials to evacuate people stranded due to the widespread waterlogging.

IMD issues Orange alert

Delhi is likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next three days as the weather office issued an 'orange' alert in the national capital today (June 29), the weather office said. Parts of Delhi, including Rohini and Burari, received rains on Saturday morning. According to the Met Department, 8.9 mm of rainfall was recorded at Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station, and 12.6 mm at Lodhi Road between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday.

For the next seven days, the capital will experience moderate to heavy rain, and an 'orange alert' has been issued for the next three days, the IMD said in its seven-day forecast.
