Amidst the prevailing water crisis in the national capital region, Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Sunday informed that she has sought time from Lt. Governor V K Saxena to seek his intervention in resolving the situation of inadequate water supply being released by Haryana to Delhi from the Munak Canal.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi Water Minister said, "Have sought time from the Lt Gov Delhi for an emergency meeting, to apprise him of the inadequate water being released by Haryana from the Munak Canal."

"Delhi is supposed to receive 1050 cusecs of water from the Munak Canal via the CLC and DSB sub-canals. However, this has reduced to 840 cusecs. 7 Water Treatment Plants are dependent on this water. If the amount of water does not increase today, then the water situation across Delhi will worsen in 1-2 days," she added.

It is pertinent to note that it is not the first time that the Delhi Water Minister has accused the Haryana government of reducing the water flow to the national capital, especially, only days after the Supreme Court directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water to the national capital and asked Haryana also to facilitate its water flow towards the national capital, which is currently facing a severe water crisis.

However, slamming Haryana Government for not-complying with the court's verdict, Atishi has earlier said, "For the last 5 days, the quantity of water has been constantly decreasing. If 1,050 cusecs of water is being released by Haryana, then at least 1,000 cusecs of water should reach Delhi. On June 1, 924 cusecs of water reached, and on June 2, only 848 cusecs of water reached. Water goes to 7 plants in Delhi through this canal. If water does not reach here, then there will be chaos in the whole of Delhi."

"The Supreme Court is trying to solve the water problem. Himachal Pradesh is ready to give more water, but Haryana is withholding the water that is Delhi's right and is not releasing it," she added.

The Delhi Minister further also informed that on the inadequate release of water, she has written to  Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini. She said, "Have written to the Haryana CM Nayab Saini regarding the inadequate release of water from the Munak Canal by Haryana. 7 Water Treatment Plants in Delhi are dependent on Munak water. If the quantum of water doesn’t increase today, then Delhi will face a worsening water crisis in the next few days."
