8. Soumya Murder Case

A 23-year-old girl, Soumya was raped while she was traveling in a passenger train from Ernakulam to Shornur in Kerala on February 1, 2011, just a day before her engagement.

Soumya was  robbed by Govindachami in a deserted ladies' compartment of the train. Govindachami smashed her head on the wall, when she resisted, and threw her out of the moving train, because of which Soumya got seriously injured.

Govindachami, then himself jumped out of the speeding train and went to Soumya who was lying in the pool of blood. He carried her into the woods near the rail track and brutally raped her.

Soumya succumbed to her injuries during her treatment at the Government Medical College, Thrissur on February 6.

The accused Govindachami was awarded capital punishment for his heinous crime.
