2. Badaun Gang rape and murder case

Badaun gang-rape case is the case of two teenage girls who were gang-raped and murdered in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The two girls went missing on 26th May, 2014, on their way to the field to use toilet.

Though the parents of the girls reported the matter to the police yet, no F.I.R was registered.

The next morning both the girls' bodies were found hanging from a tree about one kilometer from their home.

However, according to the first post-mortem report, the girls had been raped and died from strangulation due to being hanged while still alive.

The case gained both national and international attention. While CBI was probing the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also set up by the government to probe the incident.

Though the case is still being investigated but a number of protests took place in Uttar Pradesh, demanding actions to be taken against the increasing rate of crime against women in the state.
