Tamil Nadu: The Chief Operating Officer of Sun TV, a leading channel in Tamil Nadu got arrested on Friday in Chennai, on alleged charge of sexual harassment by a former employee of the channel.
C Praveen, the COO, was arrested at around 5 AM in the morning by the police teams which stormed in his house in Anna Nagar and picked him up.
This was after a complaint filed against him by a former employee of the channel who left the job five months before. Her dues were allegedly not paid.
The woman was at a senior position in the programming section of Surya TV, the Malyalam channel of Sun Network.
According to a report to a Newspaper Daily, she had submitted her WhatsApp conversation, messages and call records to police along with her complaint in order to substantiate the case.
As per the Senior Central Crime Branch Official's statement to another print Daily, he said, “We have booked him under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Sexual Harassment of Women Act. He has allegedly been harassing the woman for past two years.”
Chennai police commissioner S George has forwarded the complaint to the CCB to probe further.
Preliminary inquiries have confirmed that the lady had suffered physical and mental torture.
This should be noted, that in an year's time, this is a second sexual harassment case reported against a top employee of Kalanithi Maran-owned channel. In the earlier case, a news editor was arrested on a complaint by a woman anchor.
